Open Data Discussions Podcast: Albuquerque, New Mexico
For this edition of our "Open Data Discussions" podcast we hosted March Leech from Albuquerque to learn more about this New Mexico city's open data initiatives.
Welcome to Opendatasoft’s new Open Data Podcast, “Open Data Discussions!” Each month, Open Data Evangelist Jason Hare will speak to a leader from a different Open Data program around the country to discuss what has made it successful to provide you with insights and strategies to implement in your city!
We had the pleasure of welcoming Mark Leech, Technical Services Manager for the City of Albuquerque’s Police Department, during our first podcast.
Mark discussed various subjects ranging from:
- Developing a plan to address transparency most effectively;
- Avoiding participating in the “beauty pageant” of performance management to build an effective model using Open Data;
- Engaging a diverse audience of end users;
- Ensuring a high data quality, why it’s important, and how it can be accomplished.

Data drives effective, well-functioning smart cities and helps build local ecosystems that bring together all stakeholders to meet the needs of the entire community. However, sharing data between stakeholders can be difficult - based on recent Gartner research we explain how urban data exchanges transform smart city data sharing.
In a changing world, cities and municipalities need to provide seamless access to reliable, high-quality data to all employees if they are to meet their objectives around efficiency, improving the lives of residents, innovation and sustainability. We explain the importance of internal data portals to delivering on these needs.
