The whole Opendatasoft team is excited to announce that we have raised $25 million in funding from a mix of existing investors, including Banque des Territoires, and three new backers, Demeter (via Paris Fonds Vert), ODYSSÉE Ventures, and Eiffel Investment Group.
This new funding is key to meeting our goal of democratizing data use and increasing and expanding data sharing for all across the world.
To find out more, we interviewed Jean-Marc Lazard, CEO and cofounder of Opendatasoft.
What does this fundraising represent for Opendatasoft and the customers that have worked with you over the last ten years?
Since Opendatasoft’s birth, our goal has been to help organizations harness the full potential of their data to accelerate digital transformation.
This new funding allows us to target new goals, particularly supporting the many organizations whose stored data is not yet fully accessible or widely used by all. In other words, we want to work with them to release their data and increase its sharing and use, and thus improving everyone’s daily lives.
We want to expand data access and sharing, helping organizations tap into the potential that it holds for improving their operations, creating new sources of income, building relationships of trust with stakeholders, and responding to the economic, societal, and environmental issues facing us all.
Which business sectors have the highest potential for creating value through the better use of data?
In an increasingly digital world all organizations in the private and public sectors produce a massive amount of data each day through their activities, including those in sectors such as energy production, manufacturing, consumer goods, transport, construction, public services, and many more.
In our first 10 years, we have taken part in over 2,000 projects globally, working with customers from all sectors. We want to replicate these successes on a wider scale and allow everyone to create value from this currently underutilized but vital resource – their data..
What do you mean by increasing the use of data? How will you achieve this goal?
With digital technology, everyone today can access information effortlessly through text, images, audio files, and video files, but access to self-service data is still lagging behind.
Essentially our plans to increase data use are designed to simplify data access and sharing across the board. We want to help create the world of tomorrow, where data improves everyone’s personal and professional lives through fast, seamless access to reliable information.
In this vein, we want to work with the many organizations that currently create and store data without fully using or benefiting from it. Data often remains in the hands of experts. We want to expand access to it and build the foundations of truly data-centric organizations that are more resilient and able to anticipate and respond to economic, societal, and environmental challenges.
Our platform lets all teams quickly and easily create data experiences and then share them seamlessly within their ecosystems. We make data easily accessible. In other words, we make it simple to find, more relevant through data visualizations, and directly reusable by all types of internal and external audiences, from technical experts to consumers and the general public.
We are the only company who provides this type of solution and approach. Our customers can now positively transform their operations, create new sources of revenue, and foster more transparent relationships with their stakeholders.
What does the future holder for Opendatasoft in the next 10 years?
In 2031, data will be everyone’s business.
With a solution like Opendatasoft, we can all become data people: women and men who consume and use data effortlessly through any channel to enhance our knowledge on a daily basis, just as we do now with any other content or information.
In the next 10 years, our goal is to grow our international team and hire the best talent. After Europe, North America, and Australia, we want to build and strengthen our global presence across all business sectors.
And above all, we passionately believe that you only unlock the full possibilities of leading technology when it is combined with exceptional customer service. By 2031, we will enjoy a level of customer satisfaction that is unmatched in our industry.
How can you maximize the value of data and use it to achieve organizational objectives? That’s the ambitious goal of many data leaders as they plan for 2025. In an increasingly digitalized world, where data volumes are exploding, to generate value data leaders need to enable everyone in the business to easily access the right information in a seamless way. Data marketplaces are essential to this, delivering capabilities that move beyond traditional data catalogs, as this article explains.
